SAMMANFATTNING
Literature in Economic History and History of Technology show surprisingly little interest for the development of pulp and paper industry in general and chemical pulp manufacturing in particular during the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century. The over all purpose of this paper is to explain how one of these processes, the soda/sulphate process, developed into a working technical process during the time frame mentioned above, and also describe the socio economic climate which existed when the new chemical pulp processes established themselves during the mentioned period of time. Thomas P. Hughes model for technological systems has been used as theoretical support. His model proves that technological systems have a much deeper influence on society than what one normally expect. The paper also makes clear that the Pulp and Paper Industriy´s reverse salient is its impact on environment.
