SAMMANFATTNING
The main purpose of this thesis project was to develop measuring methods on
wood. Methods for static and dynamic measuring of deformation and
dimensional
change in 300x20x20 mm wooden sticks were developed, where dimensions are
measured with three Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDT´s) and
deformation is measured with three Laser Displacement Sensors (LDS's). A
method for measuring Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) and Poisson's ratios (v)
was
also developed. This method is based on a Zwick Universal Testing Machine
(UTM) fitted with a custom made measuring box with six LVDT´s. A test serie
was made on samples from a pinus radiata log, where weight, dimension and
deformation were measured during air drying. The method to measure
deformation and dimensions proved to be reliable, while the method for
measuring MOE and Poisson's ratios was not as good. Interesting variations
in
wood deformation were found as the wood approached moisture equilibrum point.
